March is doing its thing here in the Catskills — a bit of snow, a bit of sun, and sine confused daffodils unsure about their next move.

Side note: The Murder Mystery tickets went fast. Real fast. Pumped to see everyone there. Hope you enjoy the edition and I'll see ya out there.

A SEASON OPENER

There was a time, not all that long ago, when fly fishing in the Catskills had proper opening and closing days — anglers would circle the dates on their calendars, dust off their gear, and gather streamside to mark the changing of seasons.

These days the season runs year-round, but we still honor the tradition and bidding farewell to the cold weather — with good people, great food, and a grand old time.

Join us April 3rd from 5–9pm at The Arnold House to kick off the fly fishing season. We'll have cold beverages, mighty eats, DJ Whipoorwill spinning vinyl, and a raffle in partnership with Theodore Gordon Flyfishers to support conservation in the Catskills.

And if you're wondering — “Do I need to fly fish?” Nope. Not at all. So come on out and lets celebrate another season on the water.

SEARCH & RESCUE

These are the folks you hope you never need — but if you do, you'll be glad they exist.

Catskill Mountain Search and Rescue is a team of trained ground search and rescue volunteers who assist law enforcement when someone goes missing or gets injured in the Catskills and beyond.

This team is 100% volunteer, and they could use our support. Every dollar donated goes directly to training, gear, communication tools, and medical supplies — the things that keep them ready to respond when the call comes in. CMSAR is a 501(c)(3), so your donation is tax-deductible.

If you've ever hiked these mountains, fished these rivers, or wandered these trails, consider giving back to the people who make sure we all come home safe. Donate today.

DINNER CLUB

The next Catskill Crew Dinner Club is locked in for April 2nd at 6:30 PM in RHINEBECK.

HOW IT WORKS:

✦︎ Take a quick quiz about your interests, food preferences, and what types of folks you are looking to meet — you know, that kinda thing.

✦︎ Get matched with five other Catskill Crew Members based on the quiz results.

✦︎ Receive your invite the morning of the dinner and discover which restaurant in Kingston your group will be eating at.

✦︎ Dinner time will be on Thursday, December 11th at 7 PM. After dinner, all tables will be invited to a designated spot to keep the good times rolling. This after party is optional, so if you’re in a food coma, you can go home and sleep it off.

GIVEAWAY

TOGETHER WITH RIVER VALLEY BAROQUE

After their last sold-out performance, River Valley Baroque is “Bach” (…I’m not sorry).

Now we’ve teamed up to give away 2 Premier Tickets to Bach’s St. John Passion performed by award-winning musicians on authentic 18th-century instruments on Thursday, March 26 at 7:30 PM in Hudson.

This concert will be a heck of an experience - there’s a trial scene, a shouting crowd, and I’ve been told to bring tissues, ideally the ones with the lotion so you don’t irritate your nose. Take your shot on the trivia below - if you get it right, you’ll be entered to win those two coveted tickets. I’ll announce our big winner in the next edition.

WHAT YEAR WAS BACH BORN?

NO CHEATING. SCOUTS HONOR.
