LOCAL’S GUIDE: FARMER’S MARKETS

CREW CONTRIBUTOR

Hi, Megan here from Upstate Curious with another Local’s Guide. A trip to a farmer’s market is more than just picking up fresh produce and handmade goods. The best ones are set in beautiful spots, where you can meet local growers and makers - and maybe even spend the rest of the day exploring a new town.

Our team rounded up some of our go-to markets across the Catskills and Hudson Valley. Here are a few of our favorites.

Pakatakan Farmer’s Market
Held in the tiny hamlet of Halcottsville, this is the longest-running market in scenic Delaware County. It’s also inside one of the first entirely round barns in New York State, built in 1893, which is just weird enough to tempt me into a visit.

Callicoon Farmer’s Market
Set right next to the Delaware River in an undeniably charming town, this market is seriously picture-perfect. A film at the retro movie theater or a cocktail at Black Walnut are two of my top post-market picks. But I’m not skipping the drive over the bridge to Pennsylvania, because I’m a child.

Kingston Farmer’s Market
This market is kind of a scene, especially since it’s smack dab in the historic Stockade District. The unique and delicious Garam Goddess hot sauces and anything from Kingston Bread (until their new shop opens!) are always on my shopping list.

Ellenville Farmer’s Market
All the local produce, plus a DJ and a great excuse to explore the new energy, shops, and galleries in this town at the base of the Shawangunk Ridge. Anything Hecho Por Julia is serving will be delicious, and finding Long Season produce at a market is always a bonus.

Delhi Farmer’s Market
A year-round market with standouts like mending by Hipstitch Academy, small batch hot sauce from Tinkertown Provisions, and pies from the world- (ok maybe Catskills-) renowned Magpie’s.

Rosendale Farmer’s Market
Set at the base of Joppenbergh Mountain, you can hit a trail before the market, then wander Rosendale’s charming Main Street for brunch or a browse. Don’t miss Postmark Books’ new spot.

Rhinebeck Farmer’s Market
This large and varied market takes over much of Rhinebeck’s walkable municipal lot. I always end up at the Chaseholm Farm stand to get my fix of Nimbus Cheese, then wander next door to Cinnamon for their farm-to-table Indian menu.

Beacon Farmer’s Market
A huge and vibrant year-round market where your favorites will likely shift with each visit. That said, I’ll always be strolling with a Matcha Thomas signature latte in hand.

Coxsackie Farmer’s Market
The first time I saw Riverside Park, right along the Hudson River, I couldn’t believe it’s not more well known. A stunning spot with a big pavilion, food trucks, and live music.

Barryville Farmer’s Market
Right next to the Delaware River, this market is cuuuute. It’s a festive weekly gathering, perfect for browsing before or after you grab (or rent) a kayak, tube, or raft for your river adventures.

Enjoy! - Megan Brenn-White, Associate Broker and Head of the Upstate Curious Team at Compass
